We have all heard the phrase “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
But does anyone truly know where the phrase came from? And are apples truly the secret to a good health?
The term about apples actually comes from a Welsh proverb. Apples were encouraged as a healthy option for fiber because they don’t spoil quickly and travel well. The easy transportation made them an easy product to sell and become accessible to everyone. There was no secret meaning behind the fruit, or apples in particular to health. The main idea behind the term was for luck and disease prevention- which starts for in the Gut. What we eat either prevents or promotes disease.
Despite the nutritious reputation, most people don’t examine health benefits apples do havet. Besides being delicious, these health benefits can include:
- Lowering blood pressure
- Reducing risk of stroke
- Aiding in dementia
- Help reducing obesity.
Apples are packed with a fiber and antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin A, especially in the skins. This makes them an easy on the go snack which can keep you full and satisfied before your next meal.
